Christopher Alberts

Christopher Alberts is a senior member of the technical staff in the Networked Systems Survivability Program at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI). He is responsible for developing information security risk management methods, tools, and techniques. Alberts is currently the team leader for OCTAVESM, a risk assessment technique designed for self-directed use by organizations. Prior to his work in networked systems security, Alberts focused on developing techniques to advance the practice of risk management for software development projects.

Before joining the SEI, Alberts was a scientist at Carnegie Mellon Research Institute, where he developed mobile robots for hazardous environments. He also worked at AT&T Bell Laboratories, where he designed information systems to support AT&T's advanced manufacturing processes. He has B.S. and M.E. degrees in engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.

Alberts's publications have focused on information security, risk management, and robotic and automated system development. He is a coauthor of the OCTAVE Method Implementation Guide and the Continuous Risk Management Guidebook. Among other publications he has coauthored are Alberts, Christopher J.; Behrens, Sandra G.; Pethia, Richard D.; and Wilson, William R. Operationally Critical Threat, Asset, and Vulnerability EvaluationSM (OCTAVESM) Framework, Version 1.0 (CMU/SEI-99-TR-017, 1999); Gallagher, B., Alberts, C., and Barbour, R. Software Acquisition Risk Management KPA—A Guidebook. Pittsburgh, PA, Software Engineering Institute, Carnegie Mellon University, 1997; Siegel, M. W., W. M. Kaufman, and C. J. Alberts, "Mobile Robots for Difficult Measurements in Difficult Environments: Applications to Aging Aircraft," Proceedings of the Pittsburgh Meeting, C. Thorpe, ed., International Conference on Intelligent Autonomous Systems: IAS-3, Pittsburgh, PA, February 1993; Alberts, C. J., W. M. Kaufman, and M. W.
